Last year UPSC conducted the Civil Service exam and declared the results. 1,122 candidates qualified the exam and the topper was Gaurav Agrawal. Literally, Gaurav Agarawal didn’t believe that he has topped the civil service examination this year, when he heard it the first time.

Gaurav Aggarwal qualified the IAS exam in the second attempt and he is currently taking training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy. He told that IAS was his first preferential because in this field you can understand and solve the problems of people.

He is the only son of his parents and coming from middle class, he always surpassed in studies. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) – Lucknow and a Bachelor degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) – Kanpur. He also achieved a gold medal in IIM.

He worked as an investment banker in Citi Group in Hong Kong and after that he returned to India for the preparation of IAS. He had done so much hard work to gain success. He said “We should strive for our ultimate goal. Hard work is the only key of success.

IAS Preliminary Examination Preparation

The preliminary exam is a multiple choice question test. Preliminary Exam consists of two papers: General Knowledge, Comprehension and Logical Reasoning and each paper is of 2 hours duration.

General Studies:

Aspirants should read updated knowledge of current affairs in all areas. They should prefer general knowledge books, newspapers, News and Business channels on Television, business and political magazines, etc.

They should have proper control over all the subjects and topics. Candidates may also take help from the internet for latest issues.

Optional Subject Paper:

Download the updated syllabus for the exam in which you are going to participate and should cover all the topics. Contenders should avoid unimportant topics. Don’t take so much stress. The appropriate way to score good marks is to solve sample papers of previous year.

Each paper of prelims exam is of 2 hours so accurate speed is necessary. Applicants should also avoid negative marking.

IAS Main Examination Preparation:

Main Exam consists of the following papers:

  • Essay type Indian Language Qualifying Paper
  • English Qualifying Paper
  • General Essay type paper
  • General Studies papers
  • Optional subjects papers

In Essay type Indian Language Paper & General Essay type paper, during preparation, contenders have to study essays, magazines and English newspapers and should given preference to current and challenging topics.
