How To Join Indian Army

Indian Army is a land based branch and one of the major pillars of Indian Armed Forces. Positions like Special Forces/Doctors/ Soldiers/ Officers Post are the honorable and respectable positions in the society. This profession provides a fabulous opportunity to those who have keen desire to serve the nation.

Indian Army offers two types of commission such as permanent and short service commission.Permanent Commission is for those who are seeking for a permanent career and SSC is for those who aspire to serve Army for a few years.For getting into these commissions there are number of way:

Permanent commission:

  • NDA – After 10+2(Through UPSC)
  • Direct Entry (Through UPSC)
  • Engineering Graduates – TGC
  • University Entry Scheme

Short Servicecommission:

  • NON-TECH (Both men & women)
  • TECH (Both men & women)
  • NCC Special Entry (Both men & women)
  • LAW Graduates (Both men & women)

How to Join Indian Army as…

Special Forces:

Special Forces of India belong to Indian military or paramilitary Special Forces Includes forces such as Para Commandos, Special Frontier Force (SFF), Ghatak Force, MARCOS, Garud Commando Force, National Security Guard (NSG), etc. Candidates may join through CDSE or through NDA Exam. To apply for NDA, aspirants must have passed 12th and for CDSE they must have a bachelor’s degree with minimum 55% marks.


MBBS degree can be considered as an option of joining the Indian Army as Doctors. Army Medical Corps every year offers Short Service Commission for MBBS graduates. Postgraduate degree holders such as MD, MS, M.Ch. and DM are also eligible to apply. Candidate’s age should also not exceed 45 years. Doctors will be acknowledgedthe rank of Captain or equivalent rank.


Soldiersare the fighting forces in the Indian army. For the post of Soldier, contenders are required to appear for the recruitment rally or give CCE (Common Entrance Exam). Aspirants should be physically fit and must fulfill the eligibility criteria as per the posti.e must have passed SSLC/Matric. Soldier rank includes posts such as General Duty, Soldier Technical, Soldier Clerk, Nursing Assistant, Soldier Trademans, etc.


Officer position is a respectable and honorable post in the society. Candidates, who have dream to join Indian Army as an Officer, need to qualify any of the exams such as University Entry Scheme (UES), NCC Special Entry Scheme, Technical Entries (TGC and SSC-Tech), Advocate Entry, National Defence Academy Exam and Combined Defence Services Examination or CDS. To apply for these exams, Applicants must have completed 12th/Degree in concerned discipline from a recognized university/board.
